Morphetville May 15th, Tips and Previews

Race 1

7

LAUNDY

Victorian visitor Laundy (7) looks the safest option here although the current price of $2.70 is not very attractive. Raced in fifth place most of the way last start when beaten 2-1/4 lengths over 1800m at Caulfield at Benchmark 70 level. Up in grade and distance here but he gets a nice weight drop in this and should be hard to beat.

Race 2

1

KARACASU

Tricky looking two-year-old race but opting for the local in Karacasu (1). Ran on hard last start when just missing behind Cloudy in the Breeders Stakes over 1200m and this does not look any harder. The only concern is the outside barrier which could make things tricky but he looks a solid bet all things being equal. Damien Oliver sticks with the Godolphin runner Heresy (7) after finishing second on debut at Geelong.

Race 3

1

MADDOX

Siding with another Victorian visitor in last start Ballarat winner Maddox (11). She races on speed, led all the way to win last start and from barrier two here can see her doing the same again. Has won on a heavy track so the predicted soft going here will not present a problem and she looks the one they have to beat.

Race 4

4

BROOKLYN HUSTLE

She’s been frustrating to follow however; this does look the chance for Brooklyn Hustle (4) to break through. Has run well at Group 1 level her last four starts and drops back to Group 3 level against females here with Jamie Kah to ride. The best bet of the day for us. Wild Vixen (3) is first-up but has trialled up nicely at Flemington in preparation and capable of running well.

Race 5

3

FLEXIBLE

Came from a mile back last start to finish fourth in the Australasian Oaks here over 2000m. The extra distance here should be in her favour, the only little niggle here is Flexible (3) has been up a while and might be coming to the end of her preparation. Will need a little bit of luck but Damien Oliver is a big plus and she one of the main chances. The New Zealand filly Llanacord (1) rates a big danger and can be played confidently in exotics, particularly at the $7 currently available.

Race 6

1

IN GOOD HEALTH

This looks the ideal race for In Good Health (1) to get back to the winning list. Looked a little one-paced in the home straight last start when finishing fifth (beaten under a length) last start behind Fabric in the Queen Of The South over 1600m. Up to 2014m here and with Damien Oliver aboard she is a confident selection and can be added to Brooklyn Hustle to form a multi. Shop Til I Drop finished second in the Fabric race and being by Savabeel she should be suited by the extra distance here and looks the main danger to In Good Health.

Race 7

6

DR DRILL

Not a race for a confident selection but settled on Dr Drill who ran well first-up when finishing fifth over 1400m at Caulfield and will be suited by the 1600m here. Has the advantage of Jamie Kah so he looks a particularly solid each-way bet in a race with a few chances. Last start Flemington winner Vassilator (6 ) should be in the finish and Pacodali (1) a sneaky chance running well last start over 1400m at Sandown after a long time off.

Race 8

4

DIRTY WORK

An open looking Goodwood and happy to play Dirty Work (4), particularly at the $16 currently available. Has drawn barrier one so should be able top position just behind the speed and then finish off in the straight. Last start winner Instant Celebrity (9) will be hard to beat and has to be included in exotics as does Prophet’s Thumb, currently trading at $20. Happy to risk the favourite Gytrash at his first start after an injury enforced layoff and Behemoth has had a tough autumn.

Race 9

1

AMBIDAZZLE

Just missed here last start in similar grade and has the same weight in a similar race here. The wide barrier does not concern as she normally gets back and runs on. Only query is the going – she’s yet to win on a soft track but provided that does not cause an issue she should be right in the finish. If you are winning coming to this race then might be the right time to retire for the day.
