Flemington & Rosehill May 22nd, Tips and Previews

Race 1: Without Fear Stakes (1050m).

Translation

Small field for this 2yo fillies Listed contest. TRANSLATION (4) looks the one to beat following her last start narrow defeat by stablemate Cloudy in the Dequetteville Stakes over 1050m.  SEE YOU IN SPRING (5) led all the way to win over 1000m on debut at Cranbourne and has drawn nicely here. BALLYNORA (6) was making ground late when third on debut over 1050m here two weeks ago and one for the exotics. SILENT THEORY (3) is on debut for the Corstens stable but has trialled sharply at Flemington and is one to watch.

Race 2: Benchmark 82 Handicap (1600m).

1

Lord Vladivostock

LORD VLADIVOSTOCK (1) a worthy favourite here with two wins and a last start third behind Ironclad in the C S Hayes Stakes. Likely to race on speed and the one to beat. HASTA LA WAR (4) was running on late first-up over 1200m at Morphettville and will be better suited at this trip. FRANCE’S BOY (5) will race on speed and a repeat of his win over 1600m here two starts back gives him a chance.

Race 3: D C McKay Stakes (1100m).

5

Pandemic

PANDEMIC (5) has drawn wide but will likely get back and should be able to finish over the top of these. SWORD OF MERCY (2) will carry less weight here than when she scored over 1000m at Caulfield two starts back. VIRIDINE (1) is classy but is first-up and has top-weight – too good to leave out. SAVATOXL (6) disappointed first-up behind Kemalpasa but with no logical leader here could give them something to chase.

Race 4: Port Adelaide Cup (2500m).

4

Aurora's Symphony

WYCLIF (5) put the writing on the wall with a solid third last start over 2000m at Caulfield and looks suited by the trip. AURORA’S SYMPHONY (4) won three on end and not beaten far in the Terang Cup last start. Looks the likely leader. SILENT SOVEREIGN (2) is a handy mare and ran on well for second last start over 2400m at Caulfield. REBEL RACER (6) won over 2400m two starts back at Sandown and one of the main chances.

Race 5: Queen Of The South Stakes (1600m).

2

Fabric

This looks a nice race for FABRIC (2) after her good first-up second to Missile Mantra over 1200m at Caulfield. Trip suits and proven at this level. IN GOOD HEALTH (1) led and was not beaten far when fourth to Quantum Mechanic at Group 2 level over 1600m at Moonee Valley last start. LUNAKORN (3) was closing late last start when unplaced over 1400m at Caulfield and is good enough to figure in the finish here.

Race 6: Tobin Bronze Stakes (1200m).

2

Beau Rossa

BEAU ROSSA (2) just missed last start over 1600m at Caulfield when favourite and looks one of the main chances. MINHAAJ (8) was running on late last start over 1100m at Listed level and hard to beat here. RANTING (1) will find this easier than tackling the Oakleigh Plate first-up.  OCEAN BEYOND (3) is first-up and has won both his starts but will find this harder than winning over 1200m at Moonee Valley last November.

Race 8: Australasian Oaks (2000m)

10

Flexible

The lightly-raced STEINEM (13) the favourite but poor value? Made up a lot of ground when fourth last start behind TYCHE GODDESS (7) and ECUMENICAL (6) over 1800m and will be suited by the extra distance here. The VRC Oaks winner PERSONAL (1) looks a better play each-way despite the wide draw. FLEXIBLE (10) is an improving filly from Sydney which will be suited by this trip. BROOKSPIRE (12) is not bred to stay but won well over 1600m at Caulfield last start with AMERICAIN ANGEL (17) third.
