Best Bet - Sandown Race 5

The Gauch $10.00

The Gauch looks poised to strike after a bit of a freshen-up.

The Deep Field gelding has sensational first-up form, and his best performance would see him figure in the finish.

He is better than Benchmark 78 level and faces his easiest assignment for some time.

If the heavens open, I expect his quote to shorten significantly, and if he can stay in touch with the leaders during the middle stages of the race, he is clearly the one to beat.

The apprentice claim is advantageous, and he should get the run of the race from the inside draw.

Do Ya Punk will start favourite after a consistent preparation.

The Unencumbered gelding has been racing well without winning, and his next victory is just around the corner.

The soft track conditions play into his favour, and the drop back to 1200m could prove a masterstroke.

The wide gate is the primary concern.

Slane $7.00

Slane was ultra-impressive, winning on debut at Sale.

The Highland Reel gelding led throughout, and he fought off several challengers in transit and as they turned for home.

He thrived on the bottomless track and ate up every inch of the 1429m trip.

From barrier six, I expect the rising four-year-old to push forward, and if he can find the front and control the tempo in-running, he will look like the winner as they go through Corrigan’s Dip.

The apprentice claim is advantageous, and he strips fitter here.

The class rise is his biggest obstacle.

Zasceed looks over the odds.

The Exceed And Excel gelding is putting the picket fence next to his name, and he deserves his shot at this level.

He can box seat from barrier three, and if the leaders spend their pennies early, he can capitalise late.

He is rock-hard fit at this stage of his preparation and handles all track conditions.

The length of his campaign could come against him.

Starlight Scope $12.00/$3.30

Starlight Scope produced a teasing run fresh.

The Night Of Thunder mare has an exceptional second-up record, and the step out to 1200m looks ideal.

From barrier nine, she will jump positively and take up her favourite role as race leader, and if she can slow the clock down throughout, she can lead them in a merry dance.

The rising six-year-old is building an impressive career record, and if she can produce a peak run early in her campaign, she is the one to beat Wednesday.

Extreme Step is a first-up specialist.

The Extreme Choice mare will enjoy the significant class drop, and her best form reads exceptionally well for this event.

The apprentice’s claim is advantageous, and her record at the distance is near faultless.

It may pay to watch for any further market support.

QUADDIE

Q

$72 for 50%

Our best bet The Gauch can get our quaddie off to a flyer in the opening leg.

The veteran galloper flies over the 1200m and will appreciate the sting out of the track.

Zasceed, Aureate, Better Link, and Slane will be prominent in the second leg, while we have gone extremely wide in the remaining events.

Best of luck!
