Boomers vs. Argentina

August 3rd

Australia seek to continue its unblemished record at Tokyo when it faces Argentina in the quarter-finals.

The Boomers have defeated all before them this tournament as flagbearer Patty Mills leads the way.

Mills hit 24 points coupled with six assists in the final group match against Germany helping to guide Australia to an 89-76 victory.

Jock Landale has been a worthy compatriot of Mills and his 18 points was fruitful, but the story was Nick Kay replacing the injured Aron Baynes.

Kay managed 16 points, four rebounds and four assists to prove a worthy substitute for Baynes and give coach Brian Goorjian more confidence in what this squad can achieve.

Argentina will prove no easy beat given the form of 41-year-old veteran Luis Scola who is averaging 19.7 points per game in what is his fifth Olympic tournament.

The Argentinians pounded the host nation with a 97-77 victory on Sunday as Scola hit double-double consisting of 23 points and 10 rebounds.

Australia has the depth on its bench to counter the strong Argentinian starting line-up.

The NBA and NBL quality on display for the Boomers should prove too powerful.
