Chiefs vs. Eagles
February 13th
Super Bowl Odds: Chiefs ($2.02) and Eagles ($1.80)
Last Time They Met: The Chiefs defeated the Eagles 42-30.
After 157 days of NFL action, the crème de la crème of American football will face off in Super Bowl LVII at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
And it certainly is the best of the best in the season’s final match, with the two No. 1 seeds, the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles, making their way to the Super Bowl via outstanding regular and post-season performances.
The Chiefs are back for the third time in four years, while the Eagles return to the big dance for the first time since they defeated the Patriots in 2017.
It’s been two weeks since the Conference Finals, but it’s time to look at the biggest game on the NFL calendar and the two competing juggernauts as they battle for the Lombardi Trophy.
If you looked up courageous in the dictionary, there could well be a picture of the Chiefs following their Conference Final victory over Cincinnati. Star quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, played through a high ankle sprain to lead the injury-riddled Chiefs to a 23-20 win, with a late foul and a field goal in the final minute of play the deciding factor.
Mahomes finished the game with 326 yards and two TDs to his name, while Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Travis Kelce also scored for the Chiefs.
While he couldn’t manufacture his usual variety of plays due to his injury, the fact that Mahomes has two weeks to recover will mean he’ll be in far better condition in the Super Bowl. The Chiefs are ranked #1 for offense and passing because of their quarterback. He is looking to become the first in his position to lead pass yards and win the Super Bowl in the same season.
Away from Mahomes, there is no better man to lead the Chiefs than coach Andy Reid. The former Philadelphia coach is the all-time leader in playoff wins for both Chiefs and Eagles.
Speaking of Philly, their Conference Final victory over San Francisco was nothing short of clinical. One week after dismantling the Giants 38-7, the Eagles strengthened their position in the market with a 31-7 triumph over the 49ers.
Jalen Hurts was clearly playing through injury and added 121 yards and one rushed TD, giving the Eagles the confidence of knowing they can produce an elite performance without a dominant QB. While Hurts should bounce back in the Super Bowl, Miles Sanders was a great foil with two TDs.
Currently $1.80 favourites with Bet Nation, the Eagles are ranked #2 for offense, #3 for defense, and #5 for rushing. They’re simply dominant.
If defense wins titles, then pencil the Eagles in. If it’s the ability to stand up in tough situations and when the pressure is applied, Mahomes, Kelce and the Chiefs are probably the market leader. We’re leaning toward the Eagles in this one, but we know for sure that this will be a belter.
