Bears vs. Commanders
October 14th
It’s hard to see either of these teams going deep into the playoffs, but this still looks like a game with plenty of intrigue.
The Commanders go into week six with just one win so far but have shown enough promise to suggest they can improve as the season wears on.
Carson Wentz has been an inconsistent presence at Quarterback, with limited support from his running backs, but their defence may decide their fate in this game. They will be right in the face of Justin Fields, who also hasn’t been able to get his passing game up to his potential.
Fields had his best game last week, finally getting Darnell Mooney into the game with an early score. They are the bet for this week, but it could go either way.
SUGGESTED BET:
Total score under 37.5 at $1.92
- NFL Same Game Multi
- Leg 1: Total points under 37.5
- Leg 2: Darnell Mooney anytime touchdown scorer
- Combined odds = $10
Saints vs. Bengals
October 17th
Despite a heartbreaking loss to Baltimore last week, the Bengals go in as favourites in what has been a hot and cold start to the season.
Cincinnati has struggled to get the ball downfield with Quarterback Joe Burrow under heavy pressure through a lack of protection. If he has more time to explore his talented group of receivers fully, the Bengals will be back to the team that made the Superbowl last season.
New Orleans has one of the biggest X-factors in the NFL, with Taysom Hill, who can run and throw just as effectively. His versatility was on show last week, but there is still some doubt about their Quarterback options this week. Regardless, having Alvin Kamara back from injury brings stability and power to an inconsistent offensive team.
The Saints D has been solid for much of the year but had an off game against Seattle last week, conceding 32 points and plenty of rushing yards. The question is whether that was a blip on the radar or a genuine problem that will remain.
This will be close, but with Burrow back in front of an adoring Louisiana crowd and the Bengals with plenty to play for, they are the pick here.
SUGGESTED BET:
Bengals -1.5 at $1.89
Eagles vs. Cowboys
October 17th
This shapes as the game of the week, with an undefeated Philadelphia taking on a Dallas team that has played above itself.
The clash between two NFC East rivals has plenty of factors, not least of all the Quarterback position for the Cowboys. Will Dak Prescott make his comeback from injury, or can Cooper Rush continue his unlikely early-season surge? There were a few concerns for Rush in last week’s win over the Rams, and opposition teams may be starting to figure him out.
Expect another strong start from Philadelphia, with Quarterback Jalen Hurts proving to be as big a threat on the ground as he is in the air. He will be keeping a watchful eye on the menacing Micah Parsons, who is as big a defensive threat as they come in the league this season.
SUGGESTED BET:
Eagles win at $1.41
Chargers vs. Broncos
October 18th
There has been plenty of scrutiny on both these teams this year, with the Chargers doing just enough to find themselves sitting at 3-2.
Justin Herbert has shown resilience despite injury and other factors to deal with. He is surrounded by an impressive cast, including Austin Ekeler and Mike Williams, who were both dominant in last week’s win over Cleveland.
The Broncos have headaches everywhere, but most centre around off-season acquisition Russell Wilson. Some of Denver’s play calls have been brought into question, with the responsibility resting with Wilson and head coach Nathaniel Hackett. They are yet to be fully aligned, and while a breakout game might not be too far away, it’s unlikely to come this week.
