Best Bet - Race 2

Star Waltz $5

Star Waltz ran well on debut over 1106 metres, but the form out of the race is yet to be franked with Isles of Avalon running poorly.

Her trials and jump outs leading into her debut are what caught the eye from a form perspective.

She travelled strongly in her jump outs and looked to have plenty in reverse until the bubble popped on debut.

She was a big drifter in the market which suggests she may not have been ready and now with Damian Lane being booked it is a clear sign of intent.

Lafargue $3.5

There was a big push for this horse when he made his debut at Flemington in May over 1000 metres.

The three-year-old colt by Capitalist could only manage a sixth place spot as a $3.5 favourite.

He returns to the races with some nice jump outs under his belt and the 1300 metres looks as though it will allow to either lead or settle one spot back on the fence.

Craig Williams being booked first-up is a clear sign that this horse is travelling well and will be screwed down enough to win.

Best Roughie - Race 8

6

Zakurak $18/$4.4

There looks to be almost no pace whatsoever in this race and that will ensure Zakurak is gifted an easy lead.

He copped a near heavy track two starts ago at Mildura and then had to carry 62kgs in BM-58 grade on the synthetic surface in a high-pressure race over 1200 metres.

Cleraly those wo races were not the ideal set-up for him, but now he will get back onto a good track that favours on-pace runners who can have it their own way.

Shane Nichols has decided to go for the senior jockey rather than the apprentice which is a positive sign.
