Best Bet - Race 2

Mr Brightside $3

Mr Brightside is a racehorse on the up as he continues to progress through the grades.

Ben & J D Hayes have got this gelding to win three on the bounce with his two most recent wins coming over the mile.

With wet weather predicted for Melbourne, it means you need to have a solid base of fitness to handle the testing conditions.

He possesses a great fitness base with four runs under his belt having him primed for his first ever Saturday city run.

With the forecast rain about, the inside of the Valley track can usually chop up.

Being one or two horses off the fence is the ideal spot and from barrier eight he should be able to land in the right part of the track.

Bifrost $12/$3.3

Bifrost made his Australian debut in fine style by winning impressively on the Pakenham synthetic over 1200 metres.

The grey gelding by Group 1 winner Turn Me Loose was asked to sit outside the lead when resuming from a spell and outgunned odds-on favourite Holt to win by just under a length.

He showed great tenacity late in the race which will serve him well in the tough conditions expected on Saturday.

The threey-year-old gelding to be ridden by Linda Meech also has the advantage of having had a run over 1200 metres to build his fitness as well as the map advantage of settling on the speed.

Best Roughie - Race 8

Best of Days $15/$4.4

Best of Days returned quite well when resuming in the Group Memsie Stakes (1400 meters) three weeks ago.

He was $10 into $6.5 with most markets in that race and ended up running fifth behind Sierra Sue.

The run should have him peaking into this mile event and, even though his heavy track credentials may not read amazingly well, his only start on a heavy track in Australia was a hotly contested Group 1 mile at Randwick.

He has since become a much better race horse and he draws a perfect barrier to settle in the first four.

Brett Prebble has taken the ride here and he is brilliant form at the moment.
