AFL Round 21, Tips and Previews

Giants vs. Cats

August 6th

Down the highway we go as Geelong host GWS at GMHBA Stadium.

Jacob Hopper will miss this game for the Giants and Jesse Hogan is in doubt, which will only add to the giant task which they face.

Geelong are simply humming at the moment and registered a solid win over North Melbourne last week to continue its winning form.

SUGGESTED BET:

Cats -32.5 at $1.90

Blues vs. Suns

August 7th

It’s beggars belief Carlton can still make the top eight, but that is case when it welcomes Gold Coast to Marvel Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues scored an impressive 31-point triumph over St Kilda last week, while the Suns were decimated by 98-points against premiership contender Melbourne.

Harry McKay booted five goals in the victory and he will be keen to hit back against a Suns defence who held him to only two goals last time they played.

Carlton win this with a leg in the air.

SUGGESTED BET:

Blues -24.5 at $1.90

Tigers vs. North

August 7th

A loss for Richmond against North Melbourne will be the final dagger in its season.

The Roos have showed, despite being last, they can play a good brand of footy and they get the Tigers at the right time.

The Tigers fell short against Fremantle last week as the Roos took it up to premiership favourite Geelong.

Unfathomable to think North are in better form than Richmond, but it looks the case.

SUGGESTED BET:

Roos head to head at $2.80

Crows vs. Port

August 7th

Adelaide and Port Adelaide resume hostilities in what will be Showdown 50.

The Crows were handed a heavy defeat against classy Western Bulldogs outfit as it slumped to 13th defeat of the season, while Port Adelaide all but locked away its spot inside the top four with victory over GWS.

Port has already dealt with the Crows this season after despatching them by 49 points in Round 8.

Expecting a repeat of that result here.

SUGGESTED BET:

Port -36.5 at $1.90

Saints vs. Swans

August 7th

The Saints have failed to live up to expectations and the Swans have exceeded expectations in 2021.

That is the tale of the tape for both teams coming into this Round 21 clash at Marvel Stadium on Saturday night.

The Saints season went from bad to worse when they were made to look below par against Carlton last week, while the Swans held for a seven-point win against Essendon.

Sydney is flying on the way to finals and nothing will stop them here.

SUGGESTED BET:

Swans -16.5 at $1.90

August 8th

Two battling teams go head to head off rare wins.

Hawthorn pulled off its best win of the season against Brisbane last week down in Tasmania following the announcement the Alastair Clarkson would leave his post at season’s end.

Collingwood, too, plucked a 45-point victory against West Coast last week and look poised to make it two-in-a-row.

Collingwood’s form this year has had a little more substance to it and should mean it gets the win here.

SUGGESTED BET:

Magpies head to head at $1.85

Western Bulldogs hit the Bombers full of momentum after a big win over Adelaide last week.

The Bombers enter this clash having suffered defeat against Sydney despite their best efforts.

Essendon has proven to be a dangerous team this year, especially forward of centre, but the Dogs are a powerful unit.

Going to be hard for Ben Rutten to stop the likes of Marcus Bontempelli and his troopers running riot.

SUGGESTED BET:

Bulldogs -22.5 at $1.90

August 8th

Fremantle ride the wave of a big win when facing a Brisbane team in dire need of arresting a form slump.

Justin Longmuir is on the verge of making finals for the first time with the Purple Haze thanks to a hard fought victory over Richmond, while Brisbane slipped up against Hawthorn in Tasmania.

It has been a struggle for the Lions without their offensive and defensive guns in Eric Hipwood and Marcus Adams.

Fremantle look value at head to head good odds but prefer the line.

SUGGESTED BET:

Fremantle +9.5 at $1.90

August 9th

West Coast return home…

It cannot by a trick outside of Perth after losing yet another game in Victoria, this time against Collingwood.

But the Eagles will face a stern test against one of the defensive teams in the competition.

Melbourne deserve to be favourite in this one given it is the more trustworthy team this year.

With forecast rain for Perth, it poses a problem for the intercept defence of both teams with aerial balls hard to mark.

Would be shocked if we do not see a response from the Eagles.

SUGGESTED BET:

Eagles +16.5 at $1.90
