Best Bet - Doomben Race 8

Antino $3.50

Antino blew his rivals away at his latest outing.

It was great to see the Group 1 star over a longer trip, and he handled the genuine heavy conditions better than an old man getting into a bath.

He strips fitter due to his heroics on the Gold Coast, and I suspect the 2000m will suit him to a tee.

The weight-for-age conditions play into his favour, and champion jockey Blake Shinn knows him better than himself.

The awkward gate is the primary concern.

Fawkner Park is ready to win.

The Zoffany gelding finds his pet distance, and his residual fitness should be through the roof after a rock-solid autumn campaign.

His form around Via Sistina reads incredibly well for this event, and he handles all conditions.

He tends to find one or two better at the pointy end of the contest.

Philia $4.60

 Philia is flying at present.

The All Too Hard filly made it three wins on the bounce, and she looks well placed in this company.

The step out in trip is ideal at this stage of her preparation, and she has been heavily supported in most all-in markets.

An eye-catching trial in between runs will give her supporters even more confidence, and a victory on Saturday would see her start a short-priced commodity in the Queensland Oaks.

Hard to toss!

Benagil is a model of consistency.

The Manhattan Rain filly was rewarded for her honesty and continual efforts in the Australasian Oaks, and she meets easier opposition here.

A recent Caulfield trial looked ominous, and I suspect she has the fitness edge on the majority of her rivals.

Jumping from a different suburb is her biggest obstacle.

Yellow Brick $17.00/$4.20

Yellow Brick is over the odds.

The Mission gelding traditionally motors first-up, and his recent jump-outs should give his key rivals sleepless nights leading into Saturday’s event.

The rising six-year-old handles all track conditions, and his best performance here could be fences and panels, better than his opposition.

His versatility alone puts him into winning conversations, and he has been specked at a price since acceptances.

Too classy and consistent to pot!

Iknowastar resumes for the high-flying Bjorn Baker stable.

The Star Witness gelding has been trialling exceptionally well leading into his fresh assignment, and he draws the red rug on Saturday.

With a clean break he will pilot the field, and if he can stack them up before they run for the doctor, the fat lady will be in full voice before they enter the final furlong.

Acid test!

We have gone extremely wide in the opening leg of the quaddie.

Nothing would surprise here in a very even and competitive edition of the Magic Millions Mile.

Benagil and Philia look set to lock horns during the final furlong of The Roses, while our best bet Antino has one hoof on the till in the Group 1 Doomben Cup.

A handful of selections will determine our quaddie hopes and dreams in the lucky last!
