NFL Week 5, Tips and Previews

Rams vs. Cowboys

October 10th

The Cowboys have been one of the league standouts with a 3-1 record despite the absence of Quarterback Dak Prescott. Cooper Rush has more than handled himself as Prescott’s replacement, winning three consecutive starts. There is noise about Prescott making an earlier-than-expected return which gives Dallas a welcome quandary with the QB role.

The Cowboy’s defence deserves the credit for the strong start, and they are yet to allow more than 20 points.

That will be tested this week against a Rams team, with Cooper Kupp getting plenty of touches. He is the clear-favoured target of Matt Stafford, but he may need to use other targets like Allen Robinson more than he has been to keep the opposition guessing.

Los Angeles is a far cry from the team that won the Superbowl in February, and it’s hard to see them back on the winner’s list this week.

SUGGESTED BET:

Cowboys win at $2.92

Cardinals vs. Eagles

October 10th

Philadelphia has met all the hype from the pre-season, sitting as the only undefeated team in the league. Jalen Hurts looks a genuine MVP candidate, gelling well with his new-look receiving team. The only question mark is on injuries, with their offensive line and defense both hit hard in recent weeks.

Arizona is one of 15 teams logjammed on a 2-2 record, making the field hard to read at this stage. A slow start against Carolina last week had the doubts creep in, but Kyler Murray led the way in the comeback win, spotting up Marquise Brown, who has slotted in perfectly into their offense. They won’t get that same luxury this week, though and the Eagles look set to continue their winning ways.

SUGGESTED BET:

Philadelphia win at $1.40

Buccaneers vs. Falcons

October 10th

Atlanta is another team stuck on 2-2 and a question mark that may be answered this week. The injury to Cordarelle Patterson will hurt them, and they will have a different running game this week with more touches to Tyler Allgeier.

The Bucs looked unsettled and were never in the hunt against the Chiefs last week. Their talented receivers are beset by injury and instability, while Tom Brady is battling with on and off-field issues. Their 2-2 record may be papering over some cracks, but it’s worth knowing that Brady has been in this position often before and has gone on four times from that record to take his team to the Superbowl. This will be an excellent test to see if he’s got that in him again.

SUGGESTED BET:

Falcons +8.5 at $1.91

Ravens vs. Bengals

October 10th

Baltimore jumped out of the blocks with a blistering start last week only to fade when the game was in the balance.

Lamar Jackson may be mounting another MVP season as his offensive teammates lift around him, especially running back J.K. Dobbins.

Cincinnati will be primed to take on their divisional rivals after a 10 day break but need more from Quarterback Joe Burrow. With receiving talent at his disposal, Burrow isn’t far off breaking out of his form slump and this would be just the occasion to do it, despite being faced with an impressive Baltimore defense.

SUGGESTED BET:

Bengals win at $2.50

Chiefs vs. Raiders

October 11th

Kansas City is looking like the team we have come to know and fear over the past few years.

A comprehensive win over Tampa Bay with Patrick Mahomes dictating terms was a stark reminder that they are a force to be reckoned with.

Mahomes has extra protection from his offensive line this year and is spotting up Travis Kelce regularly.

They go in against a Las Vegas team that would be confident after a brilliant running game from Josh Jacobs, netting 144 yards and two touchdowns. The Raiders are looking a threat offensively but it may be a bit much to expect they would follow up last week’s win with a victory over the Chiefs.

SUGGESTED BET:

Chiefs -4.5 at $1.62
