Best Bet - Caulfield Race 9

Mr Brightside $2.90

Mr Brightside kicks off his spring campaign in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes, a race he was victorious in last year.

The weight-for-age champion excels at Caulfield, and his record at 1400m is outrageous.

The Bullbars gelding is a notable first-up performer, and he looks perfectly drawn from barrier four.

He maps incredibly well for this fresh assignment, and with even luck in transit, I expect him to prove too strong late.

The big boy is a marvel!

Pride Of Jenni will ping the lids and pilot the field.

The Pride Of Dubai mare has been a revelation the last eighteen months, and she is a fantastic endorsement for racing.

Her free-running style always attracts a crowd, and her resilience has captured the attention and imagination of punters.

Her record at the 1400m is the only deterrent.

Expressiveness $4.00

Expressiveness was good without winning fresh in a similar field.

The Shamexpress mare is a six-furlong specialist who traditionally motors second-up from a spell.

Barrier four should allow her to occupy the box seat throughout, and if the gaps appear as they run for the doctor, I expect her to gobble up her rivals late.

She may need some luck getting off the dulex.

Extratwo snatched victory from the jaws of defeat last weekend at Moonee Valley.

It was a twelve out of ten ride late from Blake Shinn, and it wasn’t an easy watch for those faint-hearted or scared of confined spaces.

The Toronado mare looks dangerous on the quick back-up, and she has been well supported in early betting.

The class rise and awkward alley are among the primary concerns.

Tropicus $14.00/$4.00

Tropicus is over the odds.

The Too Darn Hot colt was a brilliant winner on debut, and the stable has a high opinion of the talented three-year-old.

The big bog has been trialling nicely leading into this first-up assignment, and the 1200m will suit fresh.

His racing pattern and style will always require an element of luck.

Wonder Boy is ready to peak after successfully starting his race career.

The Cosmic Force gelding strips fitter after his recent outings, and he looks well placed in this company.

His record at the distance must be respected, and I suspect he will have the last crack at them in the shadows.

QUADDIE

Q

$128 for 25%

Happy to go extremely wide in the opening leg of the quaddie, the Cockram Stakes.

It is a very even edition of the race, and nothing would surprise here.

Munhamek, Que Tempesta, Jimmy The Bear, and Rise At Dawn can battle it out in the Heatherlie stakes, while it’s a mouthwatering clash between Mr Brightside and Pride Of Jenni in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes.

Here To Shock, Another Wil, Jennilala, and Snowman will determine our quaddie hope and dreams in the lucky last!
