Best Bet - Doomben Race 8

Scarlet Oak $3.50

Scarlet Oak looks ultra-talented.

The Kermadec filly was an arrogant last-start winner at Newcastle, and with the right run in transit on Saturday, I expect her to put her rivals to the sword again.

She is ready for the step-out trip, and the flood of early money indicates another bold performance.

I expect her to start favourite for the Queensland Oaks with another dominant win here.

Molly Bloom will have supporters after a luckless last-start run at the Sunshine Coast.

The Kiwi raider was blocked for a run at a crucial stage, and she savaged the line once she saw clear air.

Her record at the trip must be respected, and she strips fitter after he first-up performance.

She will capitalise if the favourite has an off day.

Kovalica $3.50

Kovalica is knocking on the door!

The Ocean Park gelding is always thereabouts, and I suspect he is ready to explode over the longer trip.

He has been racing well at the top level without much luck, and I suspect he can prove too strong late for his rivals with a change of fortune and a more positive ride.

Take on trust!

Numerian has recaptured his mojo.

The rising nine-year-old produced a brilliant turn of foot late to score at his latest outing, and with even luck in transit, he can continue on his winning ways on Saturday.

The Holy Roman Emperor gelding traditionally races well second-up after a spell, and his camp is currently training winners for fun.

Too consistent to leave out of winning conversations.

Gin A Tonic $21.00/$4.40

Gin A Tonic is over the odds!

The Better Than Ready colt has made an impressive start to his racing career and deserves his shot at this level.

The enigmatic two-year-old will ping the lids and pilot the field, and if he is left to his own devices on top of the speed, it could be curtains before patrons return to their seats.

This is his acid test!

Eneeza will start favourite after an impressive win in the Percy Sykes Stakes.

The Exceed And Excel filly oozes class, and I suspect she still has plenty of upside and improvement to come for the preparation.

The drop back in distance could be her undoing.

QUADDIE

Q

$96 for 100%

Zoe’s Promise, Thalassophile, and Sonora will battle it out in the Drinkwise Mile.

The classy customers are in fine form, and I suspect they all have been set for this event.

Molly Bloom and Scarlet Oak will fight in The Roses, while Kovalica is our standout selection in the Group 1 Doomben Cup.

We have gone extremely wide in the lucky last!
