Best Bet - Sandown Race 5

Bedford $3.10

Bedford has been a revelation since switching to the jumps.

The Tavistock gelding has won three out of his four outings over the fences, and he is chasing a hattrick of wins on Sunday.

The ten-year-old showed grit and determination at his latest start and deserves to be the race favourite.

The step out in distance will suit, and he should get the run of the race from barrier two.

Hard to toss!

Wil John can bounce back after a string of outs.

The Reset gelding grows an extra leg at Sandown, and he is undefeated over the arduous journey.

The Maher and Eustace factor must be respected, and he has been well-supported since markets opened.

His recent winning record is the primary concern.

Diddley Squat $8.00

Diddley Squat can resume a winner.

The Mikki Isle gelding is undefeated fresh, and he flies over the 1200m.

From barrier one, he can roll forward and take up the pole position, and if he is fully wound up for a first-up tilt, he may prove hard to run down.

The Busuttin and Young factor will attract market support, and I won’t be surprised to see his quote shorten significantly before the barriers open.

Bews will start favourite for the Price and Kent stable.

The I Am Invincible gelding is coming off a successful debut preparation, and he looks well placed, dropping significantly in grade.

His best form reads well for this event, and his recent barrier trial turned heads and broke on course clocks.

Barrier fourteen is his biggest obstacle.

Charmed Passage $15.00/$5.00

Charmed Passage has started his career in fine style.

The Charm Spirit gelding put his rivals to the sword at Bairnsdale on debut, and he can take the next step in his career on Sunday.

The appointment of Craig Williams could prove the winning difference, and the Clayton Douglas camp is currently training winners for fun.

From the middle gate, he will charge forward in search of the lead, and if he can run out an assertive 1200m, he may surprise his more fancied opposition.

Naval Academy will start a short-priced favourite after producing an eye-catching run at Flemington.

The 2kg apprentice claim is advantageous; he is ready to step out in distance at this campaign stage.

The inside draw will allow the talented three-year-old to sit in the box seat, and if he sees daylight at the right time, I expect him to figure in the finish.

It may pay dividends to watch for any significant market support.

QUADDIE

Q

$64 for 100%

Our best bet is Bedford can get our quaddie to a flyer.

He is in career-best form, and I expect him to take out the feature event on Sunday.

Jet Jitsu, Bews, General Knowledge, and Diddley Squat can fight out the sixth event on the program, while it’s a field job in the penultimate event.

The top-weight Monarch Of Egypt will do the job for the punters in the lucky last.

Best of luck!
