Best Bet - Race 1

Sweet Mary $2.2

She showed great speed away from the barriers at her only jump out in the lead up to this 1200-metre debut.

Her jump out was over 800 metres and she was eased out wide in the straight to finish off under a hold.

What really stood out was her ability to run as straight as an arrow and do so after being put under very light riding.

Brett Prebble has wondered over to Casterton for this ride after riding her in the jump out.

She clearly has a good engine under the bonnet.

Next Best - Race 3

Journalese $3.3

Just found the going a little too tough on a heavy 10 track when resuming from a spell as a $1.80 favourite over 1100 metres at Echuca.

He was beaten in a photo finish but should be able to go one better in this race from the inside barrier and with senior jockey Jack Hill being booked.

The three-year-old filly has another filly as her main danger here with Andress looking to cross from out deep.

Hoping Hill can get the trail in behind Andress if she comes across and he can peel off her back and be too strong late.

Best Roughie - Race 7

Pristine Image $13/$3.60

Putting a complete line through the last campaign of Pristine Image after he copped heavy tracks and then pulled up sore at his most recent effort before spelling.

He comes into this 1100-metre affair with some solid starting prices at BM-58 level and he did win first-up when knocking off his maiden race late last year.

Draws the ideal barrier to take a sit in behind what looks to be a cranked-up speed map early in the race.

Expecting a solid showing from him upon resumption and we get nice each-way odds to see if he can return a winner.
