AFL Best Bets, July 13

Carlton vs. Port Adelaide

Head-To-Head

The Port Adelaide train continues to roll towards a top-two finish after securing their 13th straight victory against Gold Coast over the weekend.

Most impressively, Ken Hinkley’s men were made to work for it for the second week in a row, with a nine-goal blitz in the third quarter proving the difference.

The hype surrounding Carlton’s return to form is based on three consecutive victories, but all three have come against teams outside the top eight: Gold Coast, Hawthorn, and Fremantle. In fact, the Blues haven’t beaten a current top-eight side since their Round 2 triumph over the Cats.

Even though it’s being played at Marvel Stadium, $1.63 is too good to pass up for the rampaging Power.

Suggested Bet:

Port Adelaide to win at $1.63

North Melbourne vs. Hawthorn

Handicap

It’s rare this season that we’ve considered taking Hawthorn against any team, but the $1.88 for the 12.5 points on offer seems overs against the Kangaroos.

The Hawks sit just one spot above the Roos on the ladder with two extra wins, but a second straight 10+ goal loss showcases North’s many deficiencies, while the Hawks put in a solid effort with a 13-point loss to the in-form Giants.

The Hawks were too strong for the Roos in Round 3 this year, running out 19-point winners, and we’ve watched them gradually improve while North has only worsened over time.

Suggested Bet:

Hawthorn (-12.5) at $1.88

Tom Stewart (Geelong)

25+ disposals

The Cats’ star defender was at his very best against North Melbourne over the weekend with 26 disposals and nine marks in their 62-point win.

Having averaged 24 possessions since Round 3, Stewart has notched up six games of 25+. This includes 26 and 12 marks against the Bombers in Round 7.

Another 25+ would make it three games in a row, and we’re happy to take the $1.83 on offer to see if he can claim the hat trick.

Suggested Bet:

Tom Stewart at $1.83

Collingwood vs. Fremantle

Same Game Multi

The 14-2 ladder leaders should have few issues putting this game to bed, having recently accounted for the Western Bulldogs, Gold Coast and Adelaide.

They’re entering unstoppable territory, with Nick Daicos, Josh Daicos, Tom Mitchell, and Jordan De Goey leading an in-form and all-star engine room.

As for Fremantle, they hit a new low when they went down to the Blues by 53 points at Optus Stadium, despite the best efforts of Luke Ryan and Sean Darcy.

Freo’s pain will only worsen before it improves.

  • Collingwood to win
  • L. Ryan 25+ disposals
  • M. Cox 2+ goals
  • Under 159.5 points

Suggested Bet:

Total odds at $7.00
