Flemington February 28th, Tips and Previews

Best Bet - Flemington Race 8

1

Observer $2.40

Observer was ultra-impressive, winning fresh over seven furlongs at Caulfield.

The big boy controlled the race throughout, and his rivals were always racing for the minor end of the prize.

The last time the talented colt stepped out over the mile, he was a good thing licked in the Caulfield Guineas, and he meets similar company on Saturday.

He strips fitter as a result of his fresh heroics, and barring bad luck in transit, I can’t see how his opponents can turn the tables.

Push the chips in!

Planet Red caught the eyes of punters first-up from a spell at the Heath.

The Admire Mars gelding savaged the line from a different postcode, and he put the writing on the wall for a huge second-up performance.

He deserves his shot at Group 1 glory, and I suspect he will grow an extra leg over the longer trip.

The early money has been significant, and I expect him to peak on Saturday.

His second-up record, racing pattern, and style are among the primary concerns.

Apulia $4.00

Apulia is a model of consistency.

The Fiorente entire is building a nice picket fence next to his name, and he looks extremely well placed in this company.

His form during the Perth Summer Carnival was first-class, and the Hayes camp have the big boy absolutely flying.

His versatility is exceptional, and he loves Flemington more than Makybe Diva and Bart Cummings.

Hard to toss!

Birdman is always thereabouts.

The Free Eagle gelding was good without winning fresh, and he put the writing on the wall for a huge autumn preparation.

The Chris Waller polish must be respected, and he his opening quote his been met with great support.

He tends to find one or two better at the pointy end of a contest.

Best Roughie - Flemington Race 5

2

Midwest $14.00/$4.00

Midwest is a speed machine.

The Zoustar gelding is a 1000m specialist, and he looks the likely leader on paper in this event.

The form around him is classy and strong, and he finds a very winnable assignment on Saturday.

He was ok without threatening fresh, and I expect he has been trained to the minute for his second-up assignment.

Over the odds!

Mcgaw is one talented galloper when he behaves.

His best performance here would be fences and panels better than his rivals, and his form around Tentyris is delicious.

He is a winner previously up the Flemington straight, and the market support tells a story.

The ability to over-race and carry on like a pork chop in transit is among the biggest deterrents.

QUADDIE

Q

$112 for 50%

Apuila, Wilydoit, and Birdman, will all be prominent in a cracking edition of the Blamey Stakes.

All are racing well, and I expect them to lock horns when heads turn for home.

The Victoria Derby winner Observer will be hard to toss in the Australian Guineas, while we have a handful of gallopers flying the quaddie flag in the Inglis Sprint.

The final event on the program is harder to pick than a broken nose.

Best of luck!
