Best Bet - Caulfield Race 7

Mr Brightside $1.50

Mr Brightside is a superstar!

His win in the Group 1 C.F. Orr Stakes was world-class, and he looks to have one hoof on the till in Saturday’s Group 1 Futurity Stakes.

The Bullbars gelding is undefeated at the track and distance, and his dominance has scared away most serious contenders.

From barrier five Craig Williams has a menagerie options, and I suspect his rivals are running for the minor end of the prize.

It’s impossible to tip against him!

Nugget always runs well at weight-for-age level.

The Siyouni gelding will be savaging the line late, and he looks a moral to run a drum.

Whatever the talented seven-year-old produces first-up, the foundation for a progressive and successful autumn campaign will be set.

Lady Of Camelot $4.80

Lady Of Camelot turned heads first-up!

The Written Tycoon filly led her rivals a merry dance throughout, and she looked to have plenty left in reserve as she eased down for the official winning photo.

From barrier four, I suspect the camp will employ the same race-day tactics, and if she has taken any benefit from her first-up performance, she may prove hard to run down.

We won’t die wondering!

Bodyguard oozes class.

The big boy was impressive fresh at Caulfield, and he looks like he will eat up every inch of the six-furlong assignment.

He has been crunched since markets opened, and I suspect he will get the perfect cart into the race from the middle alley.

It could be an entertaining final furlong!

Sghirripa $10.00/$3.30

Sghirripa has been a revelation during the summer months.

The Lonhro gelding has easily progressed through his grades, and he arguably should be undefeated for the preparation.

The lightly raced four-year will have the fitness edge on the majority of his rivals, and if he can overcome the carpark draw, he can successfully take the next step in his career on Saturday.

An early-speed battle could be his undoing.

Asfoora is the class runner of the field.

The Group 1 competitive Flying Artie mare was slightly disappointing in defeat first-up; however, I suspect she has been trained to peak for second-up for her main target of the campaign.

She will strip fitter after her recent outing, and if she doesn’t cover too much ground during the race’s early stages, her class can shine through at the pointy end of the race.

No racing fan would begrudge her a Group 1 victory.

QUADDIE

Q

$70 for 20%

Mr Brightside is Australia’s best weight-for-age galloper.

The Futurity looks a mere formality for the champion, and I suspect the racing public don’t appreciate what we are witnessing with his breathtaking performances.

Bodyguard, Coleman, Stay Focused, High Octane, and Lady Of Camelot will all be prominent in a very even edition of the Blue Diamond Stakes. At the same time, Asfoora, Skew Wiff, Sghirripa, Najem Suhail, Benedetta, Rey Magnerio, and King’s Gambit, will all go faster than last week’s pay in the Oakleigh plate.

It’s a field job in the lucky last.
