Imperatriz $2.00

Imperatriz has been ultra-impressive this preparation.

The I Am Invincible mare is undefeated in Melbourne, and her recent victories at Moonee Valley have been effortless and borderline arrogant.

She oozes class and could be the best sprinting mare we have seen since Black Caviar.

If she handles the straight-six at Flemington, she will stamp herself as the best sprinter in the world.

In Secret was incredibly brave in the Everest.

The talented four-year-old covered more ground than the early settlers and still had the tenacity to savage the line late.

She is undefeated at the track and distance, and if the favourite has an off day, she will be there to capitalise.

Watch for her late!

Prowess $5.50

Prowess was a brilliant winner, second-up in the Crystal Mile at Moonee Valley.

The Proisir mare will relish the step out to 2000m, and she looks dangerous jumping from an inside draw.

The in-form Mark Zahra can have the big girl sit behind the speed, and if the gaps appear as they straighten and run for the judge, I expect her to be prominent in the finish.

She can announce herself on the big stage with a victory on Saturday.

Atishu flew from the clouds in the Empire Rose.

The Savabeel mare narrowly missed Group 1 glory, and she broke all the on-course clocks with her sizzling late sectionals.

The step out in distance is advantageous, and she looks well placed under the weight-for-age scale.

With even luck in transit, she will be charging home when the whips are cracking.

The Inevitable $20.00/$6.00

The Inevitable has been good without winning this campaign.

The Dundeel gelding keeps attacking the line late, and he hasn’t been far off from causing an upset.

The addition of Damien ‘The Goat’ Oliver could prove the winning difference, and with a change of fortune in the run, I expect him to make his presence felt late.

Over the odds.

Mr Brightside is a marvel.

He was only beaten in the Cox Plate by the narrowest of margins, and I expect him to fight out the finish again on Saturday.

From barrier two, he can sit in the box sit, and if he sees clear air before the clock tower, it may be all over, bar the shouting.

$128 for 25%

Imperatriz and In Secret can battle it out in the Group 1 Champions Sprint.

Both mares are flying, and I suspect this could be the most exciting race for Melbourne Cup week.

Mr Brightside, Alligator Blood, The Inevitable, and Fangirl will all be prominent in the Group 1 Champions Mile, while West Wind Blows, Duais, Atishu, and Prowess will make their presence felt in the Group 1 Champions Stakes.

It’s a field job in the lucky last!

Leg 1: 7, 8
Leg 2: 1, 2, 3, 6
Leg 3: 4, 9, 10, 11
