Eagles vs. 49ers

January 30th

Super Bowl Odds: Eagles ($3.30) & 49ers ($4)

Last Time They Met: The 49ers defeated the Eagles 17-11

Wowee. The Eagles are back. Form and health had pundits questioning the Eagles’ playoff credentials, but they came out and sent a message with a commanding 38-7 victory over the New York Giants. Such has been the response, the Eagles are now the favourite to lift the Lombardi Trophy on Super Bowl Weekend.

Jalen Hurts returned to form with three TDs for the Eagles as they piled on 28 unanswered points in the first half. Kenneth Gainwell rushed for 112 yards and a TD from 12 carries, while the Eagle’s defense allowed just one TD. The final 31-point margin was the largest playoff win over a divisional opponent since the 1970 NFL-AFL Merger. Hurts is clearly the key for the Eagles as they face a stronger defensive unit against the 49ers.

The 49ers made it 12 straight victories when they triumphed over Dallas, 19-12. It was a defensive masterclass by the 49ers, who kept the Cowboys to one TD and at an arm’s length throughout the match. They will now compete in their second straight conference championship. The 49ers will be buoyed by their performance, given Brock Purdy didn’t record a TD, but nevertheless, the star rookie improved his starting record to 7-0.

The 2nd best defense (49ers) against the 3rd best (Eagles), Philly’s offensive game gives them the edge in this one.

Chiefs vs. Bengals

January 30th

Super Bowl Odds: Chiefs ($4) & Bengals ($3.70)

Last Time They Met: The Bengals defeated the Chiefs 27-24

Despite the current market, there’s a faint whisper from NFL fans that the Super Bowl champions will more than likely come out of this game. And it’s hard to argue with that sentiment after both sides put in impressive displays on Divisional Round Weekend.

The Bengals enter this match as $1.79 favourites with Bet Nation following their systematic dismantling of Buffalo on Monday. Joe Burrow was a man on a mission as he led the Bengals with 242 yards and two TDs. His deft touch was a thing of beauty, and his deadly precision match-winning. He wasn’t alone, however, as the Bengals’ offensive line created plenty of holes for Joe Mixon, who rushed for 105 yards and a TD.

The Chiefs didn’t do much wrong to lose Super Bowl favouritism as they booked their fifth consecutive AFC Championship Game with a 27-20 victory over Jacksonville. The biggest and only question facing the Chiefs as they prepare for the Bengals is the health of Patrick Mahomes.

The superstar QB suffered a high ankle sprain in the first half but returned to the field and finished the game with 195 yards and two TDs. Mahomes is adamant he’ll be firing come Monday, but his ability to improvise and make plays will be a defining factor to the Chiefs’ chances.
