Best Bet - Race 5

Flying Mascot $3.9

Flying Mascot progressed all the way to the Group 1 Australasian Oaks last preparation and was far from disgraced after starting a $101 shot.

She returns for her four-year-old campaign with Craig Williams booked to ride first-up which is a sign of intent from the Ben & J D Hayes Stable.

Her resuming win last preparation was one of sustained speed when setting a cracking pace out in front over 1300 metres at BM-70 level as a very heavily backed $5 elect.

Williams should be able to ascertain a similar role in this race by bounding to the front and getting this field chasing from a long way out.

There looks to be far less early speed in this event than what she faced when resuming last time which will help her cause late in the race as she conserves her energy throughout the run.

Next Best - Race 4

Rapid Achiever $2.15

This rising four-year-old mare from the Ciaron Maher & Dave Eustace team was scratched from her nominate race last week and pops up in this BM-64 over 1600 metres.

She took the step up to city grade last start when rising to the mile after a nice debut win over 1354 metres at Donald.

The mare let down with her winning run at Sandown as she whacked away late in the race to hold on by a narrow margin.

She will be reaching full fitness now and only creeps up half-a-kilo at the weights for having won in the same grade.

The fitness benefit she derives from the Sandown effort should outweigh any issues with the half-kilo weight increase.

Best Roughie - Race 8

Villa Sarchi $21/$4.2

It was hard not to be impressed with the Burumbeet jump out win of Villa Sarchi who comes up long odds in this race.

Greg Osbourne has acquired this runner off Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young and he showed good form in his jump out over 1000 metres by leading from the onset till the finish post in nice time.

Not too sure where he gets to from the wide barrier, but Osbourne has booked in the experience and nous of senior rider John Allen to negotiate the alley.

If he can find the front without doing too much or a handy spot on the speed with cover then he is a shout in this event.

The $1.30 favourite in race seven leaves us in a tricky spot as well, but we will take him one out as well.
