REBEL HEART

Bragwell will be a short-priced favourite but happy to play Rebel Heart each-way at $7. Broke her maiden over 1500m at Ascot then had legitimate excuses in two defeats at Bunbury. First-up here since January but trialled nicely at Lark Hill last week and fair to assume she wouldn’t be running here if she wasn’t ready.

Belmont Race 7

3

MIGHTINESS

Finished third first-up over 1400m at Ascot two weeks ago and will strip fitter here. Represents the Pike / Durrant combination and drawn to get the gun run – looks a big chance.

Belmont Race 8

1

EMPIRE REIGN

Placed both his starts this preparation and far from disgraced in good class races last spring. Looks ready to peak here, wide draw not ideal but he looks a solid bet at $6.

Canterbury Race 3

1

AZARMIN

Been up a while but powered home to win over 1600m on a heavy track at Warwick Farm last start after finishing an unlucky third here. Rises 3kg here but looks good enough to cope and James McDonald sticks.

Canterbury Race 4

CENTIMENTAL

Chris Waller trains the favourite Fastconi but we like the look of stablemate Centimental, especially at the $18 currently available. Fastconi just missed at Warwick Farm last start while Centimental raced on the speed and proved too good winning her maiden at Wyong on a soft track over 1350m two weeks ago. Brenton Avdulla sticks and she’s drawn to get the gun run again.

Doomben Race 1

9

JAKKALBERRY FINN

Charged home to just miss on debut at Sunshine Coast over 1200m two weeks ago when well fancied and should be suited by the extra distance here. Looks well placed here and should be winning.

Doomben Race 8

6

SHIJIN

Happy to have a ticket each-way on Shijin at $20. Goes well here having won four times, the latest on April 5 when leading most of the way over 1350m on a heavy track when ridden by Madeleine Wishart, who is on here. Drawn two and if she gets a soft lead she can be in this for a long way.

Sandown Race 3

7

AMFISSA

Scratchings have impacted this field and we are attracted to Amfissa at a big price. Won his maiden at Pakenham last preparation then ran fairly on this course over 1600m. Interfered with in the straight last start over 1800m at Sandown. First-up here after 14 week break but has the benefit of Flemington jump out. Will be better over further but at the price he looks worth the risk.

Sandown Race 5

2

KURABUI

Won all three of her starts and looks a good bet to make it four here. Powered home to score over 1400m at Pakenham last start and should be ideally suited by the step up to 1600m here with the uphill finish. Can be used as an anchor in multis.
